Jarkko became a relocation driver by a lucky coincidence - "I retired from the police inspector's job and had to do something"

When Jarkko Hynninen retired from the Finnish Police at the end of 2022, he thought he had to do something to pass the time.

A friend of Jarkko's had told him that he was working for Bilar (Bilar99e), so he went to google for more information about working as a driver. However, he mistyped the company name and he ended up on Biila's website.

And then he submitted his application. Jarkko’s application as a freelance driver was accepted.

Jarkko has now driven almost 600 relocation dries since February 2023.

He had experience of cars already before he became a Biila driver. He started his career in 1987 in the Finnish Traffic Police and after a couple of years moved to security detail covering the Finnish state leadership. He graduated as a police superintendent in 2004.

Throughout his police career, cars were a big part of Jarkko's job, and he was responsible for vehicle purchases for his own unit.

Work flexibly when you want

Jarkko's motivation for working as a freelance driver is "90% to have something to do". He clearly sees the relocations as a service sector work and a really interesting job. Jarkko mainly drives maintenance pick-ups and returns.

“Biila's freelance driver is the client’s representative. The results will be good, if the driver can relate to the customer's needs regarding the maintenance. I always ask is there something special to bring up in the maintenance”, says Jarkko.

In winter, when it is cold and slippery, Jarkko takes on less jobs.

"I like this especially because if you want to take a holiday, you don't have to accept any gigs.”

Lost 10 kilos by walking

Jarkko tries to walk as much as possible between his drives. He takes between 10,000 and 18,000 steps a day.

"When I started taking these jobs, I suddenly noticed that I've lost 10 kilos," Jarkko says excitedly.

In his spare time, Jarkko enjoys flying simulators.

"I used to fly quite a lot, but my pilot's license is no longer valid. I have flown more than 550 hours in Europe and the Nordic countries," Jarkko says.
