Elli studies at university, but also has money for investments - "I want to have money in hand after my studies"
When Elli Nukarinen, in her early twenties, moved from Helsinki to Oulu to study at university just over a year ago, the problem seemed to be the expensive distances between her two homes. Just before the move was her mother told her about a Facebook group for relocating vans. Elli immediately wondered if there was a way to get paid for doing it. After a quick google, she found the answer - yes, it is possible! That was your first step on the way to become a Biila driver.
Elli is currently studying geosciences at the University of Oulu, but also dreaming of studying environmental engineering. Besides school she works in a grocery store in Oulu to make her everyday life run smoothly.
Her move from Helsinki to a small city in north went well. Elli says that Oulu is a quiet place to live and the people are nice.
"I didn't want to stay in Helsinki to study, because then I wouldn't necessarily have had the chance to move to this kind of a place in the middle of nowhere.”
She travels to Helsinki regularly to meet her parents. She usually takes a relocation car from Oulu region to southern Finland and from somewhere there back to the north.
"When I go to Helsinki to visit my parents, I don't have to buy a train ticket and I can earn some good money at the same time."
Elli says she makes about €600 extra every month. She saves and invest all her income from Biila.
“I don't want to live hand to mouth as a student. I want to have some savings after I have finished my studies.
Among other things, she has an home saver's bonus interest account, to which she transfers the Biila commissions.
Elli recommends the job to everyone as a part-time or a second job. She thinks this could be a good way to earn money also for pensioners.
"If you are doing this beside your studies, it's important to be able to schedule your daily life well."
The table below lists the hauls Elli has made and the commissions she has received for them.
